How to Clean Your Sunglasses the Right Way

Keep Your Lenses Clear, Your Vision Sharp, and Your Investment Protected
You rely on your sunglasses to perform at their best when they're shielding your eyes from glare, enhancing color contrast, and preserving true optical clarity. But even the best lenses can lose their brilliance if not properly cared for. At PeakVision, our lenses are made from NXT™ which is a high-tech optical polymer that delivers the clarity of glass without the heavy weight or fragility. To keep that clarity intact, knowing how to clean them the right way is key.
Use the Right Cloth
It’s tempting to wipe away smudges with a shirt or paper towel, but those fibers can leave microscopic scratches that dull your lenses over time.
Instead, reach for a clean microfiber cloth. The soft, lint-free material used for microfiber cloths are designed specifically for optical surfaces. It gently removes dust and oils without harming lens coatings or scratching the surface.
Pro Tip: Keep your microfiber cloth in a case or pouch so it stays free of grit that could scratch your lenses.
Be Careful With Cleaning Solutions
Household cleaners, glass sprays, and alcohol-based wipes can strip away protective coatings or cloud the lens surface.
If you need more than a dry cloth, use a lens-specific spray or a mild dish soap diluted in warm water. Rinse gently and pat dry with your microfiber cloth.
Never use: Window cleaners(containing ammonia), vinegar or "natural" cleaners(acidic), or rubbing alcohol(can break down coatings).
Deep Clean the Smart Way
When dirt and sunscreen build up, a quick deep clean can restore that like-new shine.
Step 1: Rinse your sunglasses with lukewarm water to remove loose dust.
Step 2: Add a drop of gentle, non-moisturizing dish soap and lightly rub the lenses with your fingers.
Step 3: Rinse again and pat dry with your microfiber cloth or blow dry using compressed air.
Avoid hot water as it can warp frames or affect adhesive points in polarized or coated lenses.
Why NXT™ Lenses Stay Clearer, Longer
NXT™ optical polymer offers:
- Glass-like clarity without the weight or brittleness
- Superior chemical resistance that is less likely to degrade from cleaning agents
- Hydrophobic and oleophobic surface coatings that repel oils, dust, and fingerprints
- Impact resistance that keeps your lenses safe even when other materials might scratch or crack
Because NXT lenses resist chemical wear and distortion far better than standard polycarbonate, you can clean them safely and more often without worrying about losing optical quality.
Protect Your Investment
Keep your PeakVision sunglasses in their case when not in use. Avoid tossing them in bags or car consoles where grit and debris collect. Regular gentle cleaning not only keeps your lenses spotless but it can also extends their life and helps maintains optical precision so you see the game, the greens, and the world in full clarity.
